What Are Group Members Saying About Women to Women

If you have never been part of a group counseling experience, you may not be aware of the benefits group members encounter.

As a way of evaluating their group experience, the group members freely responded to the following two prompts.

Major things I am taking from this experience are …
· “Less self judgment”
· “More self awareness”
· “More self care”
· “More self compassion”
· “More self respect”
· “More ability to project to others my respect for myself”
· “Knowing I am not alone”
· “Feeling less stuck”
· “Feedback from others about some of my strengths which I don’t see in myself”
· “Gaining a different perspective on issues because I’ve been impacted by how others perceive things”
· “Less judgment of others”

The best part of being involved in this group is …
· “I could speak freely.”
· “There was no judgment of me or anyone else.”
· “I was able to hear my own voice and evaluate it. I could then adjust how I handled and/or reacted to things.”

Depression Screening Day: Thursday, October 11th 4-6 pm

National Depression Screening Day
Thursday, October 11th  4-6 pm
•Free, Confidential Mood Screenings
•No Appointment Necessary
•New London, Newport, & Claremont

CA is participating in a nationwide effort to increase depression awareness, fight stigma and screen community members for mental health concerns. National Depression Screening Day is the nation’s oldest, voluntary, community-based screening program. To participate, Counseling Associates is offering confidential, free mood disorder screenings at their offices in New London, Newport, and Claremont. After completing a screening, participants will receive referral information for further evaluation and treatment if needed.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, depressive disorders affect approximately 18.8 million American adults or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population in a given year. Depression can manifest differently depending on age, gender and other social factors.
“One of the main myths about depression is that it is normal among certain populations. The truth is that depression isn’t, and shouldn’t be, for anyone, regardless of their situation,” said Susan Borchert, PhD of Counseling Associates. “National Depression Screening Day and our new online screenings (see more below) help people become more aware of the signs and symptoms of this condition and the importance of seeking help before a problem becomes serious.”
